I.B. Manoj wins Vanamitra Award 2021

Grassroute proudly announces that I.B. Manoj Kumar, one of our team members won the Vanamitra Award of 2021.

The memento design, presented to IB Manoj by Grassroute.

The award is instituted by the Social Forestry Division of the Forest and Wildlife Department for environmental activists in each district in Keala as part of promoting biodiversity and forest conservation. The award carries a cash prize of ₹25,000, a certificate and a plaque.

The life of Manoj Kumar is dedicated to environmental activism. Manoj is the leading force of Grassroute and he is always in the front row in all activities. He leads a simple and quite natural living. His house is surrounded by a baby forest which he developed with the hard work of two and a half decades.

Presenting the memento by Neethu Binod, Nayarambalam Panchayath President for Grassroute.

It was the work of Masanobu Fukuoka “The One-Straw Revolution” which lead Manoj into the life of nature. By profession, Manoj is an Electronics Engineer and he is an expert in Data Recovery from failed hard discs and other digital devices. He is a Free Software Activist too.

It’s a common sight for Vypeen people that Manoj travels on a bicycle in the streets of Vypeen during the summer season. Wearing a GNU Head T-shirt, he’s collecting seeds of available fruit trees. After collecting all the available seeds, he plants them in paper bags. Having all these seeds are germinated, they will be sent to schools and colleges or organizations and individuals for free.
